Site-specific installation
Overturning the famous 1965 Beatles song “Yesterday” to a poetic frame for reflecting on the contemporary condition of the Arab world.
Painted directly onto the gallery walls, the installation recreates the visual language of breaking-news banners common to television broadcasts. The English lyrics of “Yesterday” are translated into Arabic and wrapped around the space, creating a continuous ribbon of text that circulates like an unending broadcast.
This shift of a global pop-cultural reference into an Arabic news format draws a parallel between collective longing and the sense of loss embedded in the song’s lyrics, using them as a metaphor for a region marked by upheaval and irreversible change.
