During a visit to the United States in 2007, people repeatedly responded to my nationality with the same phrase: “I’m sorry.” This work transforms that repetition into an illuminated sign featuring I’M SORRY, surrounded by flickering light bulbs in the colors of the American flag. The piece reflects the tension between personal encounter and political perception, and how a simple expression can reveal layers of guilt, distance, fear, or misunderstanding.
