adel abidin debris

This work involves eleven fabricated debris pieces resembling hollow concrete bricks. These bricks were created to mimic those that might have been sourced from demolished temporary display walls in Iraq. These faux walls were strategically erected during the memorial of the death of one of the Imams. Printed posters, attached to these imitation walls, replicate the Iranian painting representations of the twelve Imams.

These counterfeit posters, reminiscent of marketing billboards and pervasive propaganda, seemingly cover numerous urban walls across Iraq during the memorial period. They give the illusion of saturating the cityscape.

The piece itself consists of 11 fabricated debris items, each artfully displayed on a large glass-boxed pedestal/table. Accompanying labels intentionally specify the actual locations from which the fabricated debris were purportedly collected, further emphasizing the fictional narrative and providing a tangible connection to the illusory places of origin.

Eleven Hollow concrete bricks and paper.
Dimensions: Vary for each sculpture.
