Adel Abidin: I Love to Love

Video/Sound installation

I Love to Love draws themes such as power relations and violence. In a nightclub people are shuffling on the dance floor to a silent song. We hear heavy breathing, clothes rustling, occasional sobs and an eerie humming to Tina Charles’ disco hit “I Love to Love”. However, there is little love or joy to be found in this scene, as the camera slowly pans over their bodies, revealing their bloodied faces, ripped clothes and other signs of physical or mental abuse. It is a dance of victims, a choreography of pain that somehow manages to be strangely beautiful.
